On 10 July, Siberian Federal University (Krasnoyarsk) solemnly launched Summer University large-scale federal project. It is aimed at introducing international students to the potential of Russian higher education and creating sustainable international student communities on the basis of leading Russian universities. Siberian Federal University together with two other federal universities - UrFU and KFU - are the project's base platforms. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Russia acts as the coordinator of the events.
Dmitry Chernyshenko, Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation, sent a welcoming speech to the participants of the Summer University project: "I welcome you to a unique educational platform created to acquaint young people from different countries with Russian education, science, history and culture. The first Summer University took place in the Year of Science and Technology in the format of an educational project between Russia and Belarus. Since then, the geography of the project participants has increased many times over. Last year students from 9 countries took part in the Summer University, and this year the forum has already brought together students from 25 countries of far and near abroad. This once again confirms the demand for Russian education and the openness of our country for international scientific projects... I am confident that the Summer University will become an excellent platform for the creation of social and cultural initiatives, breakthrough innovative projects, and most importantly - joint ideas and new international collaborations, which will strengthen the development of human resources potential of our countries. I wish you success, fruitful work, and bright impressions".
The ceremony was attended by 300 foreign students of 3-4 years of study from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Georgia, Bangladesh, Jordan, China, Mongolia, Ecuador.
Principal of SFU Maxim Rumyantsev addressed the audience: "The Summer University is one of the largest and definitely the warmest and most welcoming project of Russian higher education. It is held on the basis of three major federal universities with the involvement of partner universities from 7 federal districts of Russia. And all these universities are ready to welcome you to their team - a team of purposeful and creative people capable of creating the future and driving progress.
Two intense weeks full of knowledge, colorful leisure time and new acquaintances await you. We have tried very hard to make sure that you spend them with maximum benefit, getting acquainted with the potential of Russian education. We hope that you will have the best impressions from the time spent in the walls of our university, and many of you will want to return to Siberia to continue their studies".
Lemka Izmaylova, Deputy Director for Educational Activities at FSASI Sociocenter welcomed the guests at the ceremony:
"It is from those who gathered today in this hall depends on what our future will be like. After all, we see how an international student brotherhood is born out of a small educational project. All of you, representing different cultures and traditions, have such spirited faces. You have gathered in a country that has always been a multinational, multicultural and multi-confessional country. This means that you have all opportunities for development here. And today we want you to feel these opportunities. Everything is open to you today in the center of Siberia - the hearts of people, nature, the strength of the country. The fact that so many people have gathered here, having overcome huge distances and various difficulties on the way, shows that this project is important for all countries. I am sure that this feeling of Russian hospitality and friendship will stay with you forever!".
Sergey Ponamarenko, Acting First Deputy Governor of the Krasnoyarsk Territory, delivered the region's head of state's parting words to the participants of the Summer University:
"I am glad to welcome everyone to Krasnoyarsk, to Siberian Federal University. The city welcomes you with warm weather, and I hope you will have the same warm memories of your visit here. It is gratifying that for the third year already SFU, with the support of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, has become a platform for this significant project. The geography of the event grows every year, and this time we have friends from 14 countries of the world. Thank you for coming to us! This is not the first time SFU has hosted major international summits - a few years ago, the campus hosted the World University Summer Universiade-2019.
Of course, it is impossible to see everything that our region is rich and famous for in a fortnight. I am sure that many of you will have a desire to come back here and continue getting to know the Krasnoyarsk Territory. And of course, here you will make acquaintances that will help you on your chosen life and professional path. Good luck!".
Seven programs of additional education will be available for students who became participants of the Summer University 2023 in the following areas: "Management, Engineering: Mining and Metallurgy, Engineering: Power Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Motor Transport, IT, Biomedicine, Philology, Tourism.
Invited experts of regional, federal, and international levels will address the participants: Nikolay Raspopin, Minister of Digital Development of the Krasnoyarsk region; Sergey Verkhovets, Director of the project office of the world-class scientific and Yenisei Siberia SFU educational center; companies representing industry areas - PJSC Magnit, Business and Business, MMC Norilsk Nikel, JSC Krastsvetmet, Solution Factory, MU Global Coaching and many others.
Lectures and seminars will be given by professors at the partner universities of the Summer University 2023: V. P. Astafiev Krasnoyarsk State University; Krasnoyarsk State Medical University; Siberian State University of Science and Technology named after M. F. Reshetnyov. M. F. Reshetnev Siberian State University of Science and Technology; Krasnoyarsk State Agrarian University; Tomsk State University; Novosibirsk State Technical University; Tomsk Polytechnic University.
All participants of the Summer University will listen to a course of lectures at the School of Social Design. And then, working in teams under the guidance of mentors, they will prepare social projects aimed at solving various public problems. The best ideas will be presented at the finals of the Social Project Accelerator competition.
Special attention will be paid to the development of students' future competences - soft skills, which are not related to a specific profession, but contribute to the effective solution of functional tasks, networking, successful career advancement, and effective implementation of entrepreneurial activities. Participants will have an opportunity to improve their skills in effective communication, teamwork, and presentation of their ideas to others. Numerous trainings and workshops will contribute to the development of students' emotional intelligence, systemic thinking, and cognitive flexibility.
Along with training, various leisure, sports and excursion activities, quests, festivals, and much more are provided.
