Russian President Vladimir Putin in his decree “On the national development goals of the Russian Federation for the period up to 2030 and in the perspective up to 2036”, where several points are devoted to the sphere of education, has set a task to attract foreign students to Russian universities.
According to the text of the decree, among the target indicators and tasks, “the fulfillment of which characterizes the achievement of realization of each person's potential, development of his talents, education of a patriotic and socially responsible personality national goal”, is named "an increase in the number of foreign students studying under educational programs of higher education in Russian educational organizations of higher education and scientific organizations to at least 500 thousand people by 2030”.
The Summer University international educational project, which has been implemented on the initiative of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation since 2021, can also contribute to the attraction of foreign students. The operator of the project is FSASI Sociocenter.
This year, a record number of applications – more than three thousand – were submitted for participation in the project. All applications were considered, and 1200 best students from Russia and foreign countries were selected to participate in the project.
From 8 to 22 July 2024, the project participants will be accepted by three leading Russian universities: Kazan (Volga Region) Federal University, Siberian Federal University, Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin. Foreign students will get acquainted with Russian education, science, history, and culture of our country.
“The demand and competitiveness of Russian education is confirmed, among other things, by the results of Summer University international educational project. This is evidenced by the feedback from international students who took part in the project in 2023 and by high interest in the project this year. The leading universities of the country – participants of the Priority-2030 strategic academic leadership program, which in itself is a sign of quality, demonstrate modern educational technologies, innovative approach combined with the best traditions of Russian higher education. All this once again confirms that higher education in Russia is becoming more and more attractive for foreign youth every year”, – Head of FSASI Sociocenter Andrey Keller comments.
