On 10 July, the Siberian Federal University launched the Summer University federal project. It is aimed at introducing international students to the potential of Russian higher education and creating sustainable international student communities on the basis of leading Russian universities.
Students who became participants of the Summer University 2023 have access to 7 educational programs: "Management", "Engineering: Mining and Metallurgy", "Engineering: Power Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Motor Transport", "IT", "Biomedicine", "Philology" and "Tourism". All participants of the Summer University attend a course of lectures at the School of Social Design. And then they will prepare social projects aimed at solving various social problems. The best ideas will be presented at the finals of the Summer University.
"There has already been a course of lectures on social design, it was read by our colleague from Tomsk Polytechnic University. Thanks to this, the students of the Summer University 2023 were able to start developing group projects. They are assisted in this work by mentors. In addition, during the pastime, the students attended 6 educational blocks on soft skills. One of the central events of the last week was an international sports competition. Its peculiarity was that in each team there were representatives of different countries", - said the curator of the Summer University 2023 project Evgenia Ershova.
During 7 days of the project more than 300 foreign students from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Georgia, Bangladesh, Jordan, China, Mongolia, Ecuador visited a number of educational platforms - they got acquainted with the work of programmers and computer game developers, learned how modern designers work. In addition, the students were able to see how manufacturing works in the region. They visited the Krasnoyarsk non-ferrous metals plant, visited the laboratory of the Krasnoyarsk Medical University - there they were told about modern molecular biology.
Special attention is paid to the development of students' future competences - soft skills, which are not related to a specific profession, but contribute to the effective solution of functional tasks, establishment of contacts, successful career advancement, and effective implementation of entrepreneurial activities. Participants will have an opportunity to improve their skills in effective communication, teamwork, and presentation of their ideas to others.
The project participants also visited several excursions: they saw the Stolby national park, the city of Divnogorsk with its rocky shores, Krasnoyarsk hydroelectric power station, which stands on the Yenisei River and supplies energy to settlements and enterprises of the region.
The Summer University project was organized by Siberian Federal University together with the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation and FSASI Sociocenter.
